Selling single family homes generally involves getting a land survey. Some owners have survey documents from their purchase of a home, which the new buyer can accept. This will save the owner the cost of having a new survey done. If significant changes have been made to the property or the survey is really old the buyer might insist on a new survey.
If you have your original survey, the company that performed it will usually give a discount if you contact them for a new survey of the same property.
