Kailua history
Kailua was originally a small town out in the country. After World War II, construction of the Pali Highway provided a faster way for people to travel to and from Honolulu. Kaneohe Ranch (a major landowner on the windward side) sold off its land, which was gradually converted to residential properties. Kailua grew quickly and became the popular neighborhood that we know today.
