Kapahulu real estate
Kapahulu is one of those mom and pop neighborhoods in an older part of Honolulu. It has great character because of the many cute homes located on the backside of Diamond Head and an assortment of restaurants and shops. Local landmarks include Leonard's Bakery, Waiola Shave Ice and Rainbow Drive In. For surfers, RV's Ocean on Campbell Avenue is a place to get surfboards and surf lessons. Kapahulu is also home to Oahu's newest and largest Safeway store, located at 870 Kapahulu Avenue.

History and location of Kapahulu
The name Kapahulu means "the worn out soil" in Hawaiian. That's all we know about the name.
Kapahulu is a well known area because of its main road that leads from the H-1 Freeway and Waialae Avenue, all the way down to Waikiki. The intersection of Date Street and Kapahulu was filmed many times on the TV show, Hawaii Five-0 back in the 1960's and 1970's. Kapahulu is also home to the world's busiest golf course. The Ala Wai Golf Course is bordered by the Ala Wai Canal, Date Street, McCully and Kapahulu Avenue.
At one time there was a neighborhood theater, called (you guessed it) The Kapahulu Theater. The theatre operated from around 1942 to 1982 and it was located at 611 Kapahulu Avenue. The site is now home to a small shopping center, anchored by a Papa John's Pizza store.
This is a neighborhood that's pretty easy to find. If you're driving towards Koko Head on the H-1 freeway, take exit 26 (Waialae Avenue). Drive underneath the freeway, go past Market City Shopping Center on your right and then make a right turn onto Kapahulu Avenue. The Kapahulu neighborhood pretty much surrounds this steet until you get into Waikiki.
