The Lanikai lifestyle
The Hawaiian name, Lanikai means "Sea Heaven." Lanikai is just a 30 minute drive from Honolulu or the airport, five minutes to Kailua Town and light years away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world.
The long strip of sparkling sand meets the clear deep turquoise green water with twin islands, Mokumanu and Mokulua off shore, sanctuaries for seabirds, makes this one of the most scenic beaches in Hawaii. It is as close to heaven as one gets. It is one of the best swimming beaches in the state. There are places to kayak, windsurf, walk and ride bikes. Owning a home in Lanikai will have you feeling satisfied that you've picked one of the best places in the world to live.
Directions for driving to Lanikai
Alala Road is the main route into and out of Lanikai. After entering the neighborhood, Aalapapa Drive takes you further into Lanikai on the mauka (closer to the mountain) side. At the end of Lanikai, the road loops around, becoming Mokulua Drive. Continuing on Mokulua Drive will take you back to Kailua.
Lanikai Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) Report
There were nine home sales in Lanikai during 2008. The average Lanikai home sale price was $2,889,333. Lanikai homes generally sold for 99% of their listed prices. Average time on market (DOM) was 61 days, although there's a large standard deviation. Four homes sold within 15 days and one home was active for 333 days until going into escrow.
The lowest Lanikai sale price was $980,000 for a home on Aalapapa Drive and the highest was $7,780,000 for a home on Mokulua Drive which had 5,000 square feet of interior area. Sales during the last quarter of 2008 were sluggish. Note that there were no closings in September, October or November. The last sale of the year closed on December 4th, for a house at 1459 Aalapapa Drive, which actually sold for $50,000 above asking price!
