Pauoa Valley
Pauoa is located on the upper side of Punchbowl Crater and just below Pacific Heights. Being in the heart of Honolulu and so close to the financial district, this seemingly sleepy neighborhood is quite popular for city dwellers.
With a generally level topography, views are generally of Punchbowl and the Ko'olau mountain range. Some of the hillside homes have ocean views.

History of Pauoa Valley
In the early 1800's immigrants began cultivating crops in this fertile area. Water was plentiful from several sources, including Kaaikahi Springs, Pauoa Stream, Kahuawai Springs and Booth Springs. A century later, Pauoa Valley was thriving with crops. Taro, coffee, rice paddies, pineapple, orange and figs were some of the staples grown here.
Pauoa Ridge on the east side of the valley held a trail leading mauka. Sandalwood was harvested in the upper regions and hauled down the trail in the early 1800's until the trees were depleted.
Residential construction gradually replaced crops after the early 1900's. Today there are still some agricultural lots in the valley, along with many homes. Most Honoluluans are unaware of the bounty of produce that once came from Pauoa's soil.
